2003年至2007年就读于南京大学化学化工学会,获化学学士学位;2007年至2012年就读于中科会上海有机化学研究所,获得有机化学博士学位,师从马大为研究员,主要从事天然产物全合成研究; 2013年至2015年在普林斯顿大学化学系从事博士后研究,师从David W. C. MacMillan教授,专注于发展高效的光催化合成方法学。
2015年9月加入太阳集团娱乐太阳娱乐担任助理教授和博导。

Dr. Zhiwei Zuo received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Nanjing University at 2007. Then he went on to pursue his PhD in organic synthesis at Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, CAS. From 2017 to 2012, he worked on the total synthesis of the communesin alkaloids under the supervision of Prof. Dawei Ma. In 2013, he joined the MacMillan group at Princeton University as a postdoctoral researcher. Under the guidance of Prof. Dave MacMillan, he started to learn about photoredox catalysis and pursued the development of photocatalytic decarboxylation transformations. He joined the School of Physical Science and Technology at ShanghaiTech University in the autumn of 2015, where his group’s work has focused on the development of sustainable photocatalytic systems.

光促有机反应是通过催化剂将光能转化为化学能,进而实现反应底物在温和条件下的高选择性、高效率转化。大家致力于发掘低价金属的光化学性质,开发新型催化剂,将低价易得的原料高效转化为高附加值产品。大家率先发展了 LMCT 催化模式 ( LMCT Catalysis ),通过金属复合物的光促配体到金属的电子跃迁途径,利用光能来高效实现有机分子的氧化。利用这一高效催化模式,大家不仅研究有机分子中的碳氢键、碳碳键官能团化方法,而且更加深入探索能源分子如甲烷、二氧化碳等的催化活化与利用,为绿色能源化工发展提供新思路。在成功开发这些高效合成方法的基础上,大家将进一步展开对高活性天然产物、药物分子的合成;同时也将探索小分子试剂与蛋白质等大分子的偶联反应,开发新型光催化生物正交反应。


Photoredox catalysis has emerged as a powerful platform for the direct activation and functionalization of organic molecules via open-shell pathways. Central to this approach is the photoexcited metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) of metal–polypyridyl complex that can convert light energy into chemical potential energy for single electron transfer (SET) oxidations or reductions. Ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) is a mechanistically distinct and synthetically underinvestigated excitation process, which promotes homolysis of a metal–ligand bond to generate ligand-based radical intermediates. We have successfully utilized light energy to generate various energetically challenging alkoxy radicals from simple alcohols, via a coordination-LMCT excitation-homolysis sequence, a photoredox mode we coined LMCT catalysis. This mode enables targeted oxidation to occur only at the transiently coordinated functional group, and more importantly, facilitates the development of more affordable and sustainable photocatalytic systems. This approach has enabled us to achieve selective activation of alcohol feedstocks through cerium photocatalysis under mild and ecological conditions, to develop alkoxy radical mediated skeletal rearrangements of cyclic alcohols and remote C–H functionalization of alcohols. With the synergistic merger of LMCT and HAT catalysis, the intrinsically inert C–H bond in methane could be homolytically cleaved by HAT process with alkoxy radicals at room temperature to generate highly reactive methyl radical, offering new opportunities for the direct functionalizations of methane.
