Biography
Dr. Liu received his bachelor degree from the university of Science and Technology of China in 2001 and his Ph.D. from the university of California, San Diego in 2008 in physics major. Then joined the X-ray scattering group at the Brookhaven National Laboratory U.S.A. in 2009 till 2013 as a Postdoc research assistant and visiting scholar. After that, he served as an associated research scientist at the Institute of physics, Chinese academy of Sciences(IOP, CAS) from 2013 to 2018, during which time he was awarded with the Chinese “thousand youth talents plan” and the CAS “hundred talents plan”. In 2018, Dr. Liu moved to ShanghaiTech University and became an associated professor in the school of physical science and technology.

Research Interests
Dr. Liu’s main interest is in the symmetry breaking and phase transition in electron correlated systems,and utilizing various X-ray scattering techniques to understand their mechanisms to understand their mechanisms by probing the static and dynamic properties of the lattice, charge, spin and orbitals. In recent years he starts to explore X-ray scattering in the time domain, aiming to understand the non-thermal equilibrium evolution of the electron-correlated systems. In the coming years, Dr. Liu is responsible for building a time-resolved soft X-ray inelastic scattering beamline for Shanghai SCLF project.
