Research Interests
The Guo Lab combines state of the art mechanical measurement and single cell imaging to study the fluid mechanics and collective motion of active soft condensed matter, e.g., bacterial suspension, in three directions: 1. Locomotion and steering of single micro-swimmer, such as bacterium and Janus particles: how spatial confinement and external field affects the motion of micro-swimmers; 2. Wetting, viscoelasticity and adhesion of biomaterial on a single cell level;3. Pattern formation in the collective motion of active matter and how it affect the biological function of a large collection of cell. This will inspire the design of new types of ‘active’ material and help to understand the formation of biofilm and develop better removal method. Atomic Force Microscope, Optical Tweezer, Confocal Microscope and Micro Rheometer are used in the study of active soft condensed matter.
